Research
Design prompt: ”Suppose you are a designer working with AEKI, a company that sells custom furniture pieces. They specialize in making elegant, modern, and multifunctional furniture that maximizes space in small apartments. Their main users are young to middle aged people who live in small apartments. AEKI now wants to expand their presence online with a website, and they hired you to create a website where people can place orders and learn more about the company."
First, I performed a competitive analysis on IKEA and Wayfair’s websites, analyzing the layouts and information provided on site, as well as identifying their key consumer groups. From there, I conducted a contextual inquiry watching peers navigate these websites to identify successes or challenges they encountered.
Ideation
I brainstormed a couple ideas using the Crazy 8 Method, and settled on 3 main features I wanted to integrate into my website design to streamline the user experience.
Design System
Before starting on my low-fidelity designs, I envisioned a design system with colors, typography, and a logo to help solidify the brand image I wanted to portray for this fictional company website.
